Happy Aussiedoodle Mom!

"Finally a dog food my 1-year old Aussiedoodle loves! I went through several other (top) brands before trying The Honest Kitchen. She loves the clusters plus they smell good! BTW, read a few comments about the crumbs in the bottom of the bag. Her favorite is when I take those crumbs and mix them with a little warm water. She licks the bowl clean. Happy dog mom here!"

Wonderful Numnums

"My crew love this food! I get the dehydrated and the clusters! They love it so much. I do add more vegetables to the dehydrated even though its not needed. Just for a healthy treat for my furbabies!"

Autumn G. (5/5)

Picky poodles

"I’ve never forced my dogs to eat kibble. But one who is 10 years old has frequent diarrhea and about 2 months ago I started pouring a little broth over 1/4c. of the chicken clusters then add it to homemade dog food, canned food etc. He gobbles it up as long as it’s soft and it definitely firms up his stools. He likes it so it’s a win win for all of us now."

We're making the switch!

"My 4 year old Frenchie has a sensitive tummy and her poops were always on the softer side but not anymore. After reading all the great reviews, I decided to give the Whole Grain Chicken Clusters a try. Not only does she tap her bowl asking for food at mealtime but her poops have never looked better."

New Whole Food Clusters Are NOT As Good As The Old

"The new whole food clusters small breed are nothing like the original chicken & oat formula. They are not the same color, and they don't smell the same at all. In fact, the old formula actually smelled good enough to eat! This new formula smells like wet cardboard. My sweet sheltie has been on the old formula for over a year, and NO vomiting! Now, the new formula is all I can get, and she's vomiting again. Why did you have to change? Why couldn't you make the change and offer the new and improved superfood, but allow existing customers who were having total success with the old formula the option to purchase the old formula? Now, I'm right back where I started, trying to find a good company who provides a food that my sheltie will not throw up. She is not sick. She has no other health issues. But she vomits the new formula. I'm so disappointed I can hardly articulate my sadness."

Q&A

You used to have so much more nutritional information on your foods - that’s how I chose your Chicken and Oat puppy food. Now I’m looking for adult foods and I have to ask for the info. You get two thumbs down from me for dumbing down your website. I want calcium and phosphorus information for all of your whole grain dog foods.
Hi Eleni, Thanks for reaching out to us! Typically, we provide nutrient profiles for each recipe on our website, however, we're currently undergoing site maintenance so they're temporarily unavailable this way. Sorry for the inconvenience. Here's a direct link to the database that stores the nutrient profiles for all of our recipes: https://app.salsify.com/catalogs/96cad16f-6a58-4436-a580-c1eec8771b3f/products?filter=%3D&page=1 I hope this helps!
What are your feeding guidelines measured by weight? i.e. How many grams are in 1 cup of your food? This would help us estimate the cost per month and how many bags we are likely to need per month.
Hi Emily, Yes, its by weight and activity level. On average, there are roughly 115 grams in each cup of our Clusters, as well as in a cup of our dehydrated recipes prior to adding water. Please check our suggested feeding guide here for calculation reference to know how many bags you might need https://support.thehonestkitchen.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026989632-How-much-do-I-feed-my-pet I hope this helps!
Is the whole grain chicken oat dry clusters appropriate for senior dog food? Does it contain glucosamine? Is this an appropriate food to help with weight loss?
Hi Kay, Thank you for reaching out to The Honest Kitchen. I hope you are doing well. Yes, the Whole Grain Chicken Clusters are recommended for senior dogs. Please click on the link below to see all recipes recommended for seniors. https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/collections/shop-senior-dog-food-treats-toppers Unfortunately, glucosamine & chondroitin are not essential nutrients needed in a complete and balanced diet and it is not something that we add to our recipes. Please let me know if you have any other concerns. All the best,
What is the “natural chicken flavor” used in your food?
Thanks for your question! Dogs taste with both their nose and taste buds – food palatants have been created to ensure dogs love their food the first day and every day thereafter. This is especially important as they eat the same thing nearly every day. It’s important to note that 99% of all kibble uses some type of flavor added to the food (palatability enhancer) – this includes brands touting a high percentage of meat and even freeze-dried food. Because of this, consumers have very high expectations of how their kibble will perform based on their dog’s pre-created expectations of taste and smell. Most kibbles have the flavor sprayed outside after cooking using a mixture of fat or oil, and the flavor—“candy coats” the kibble with a very desirable texture and scent. Flavor can be listed in a number of ways: “artificial flavor,” “natural ‘named’ flavor” (vegetable or meat), or just “natural flavor” (which can be a spice, fruit, vegetable, edible yeast, plant material, dairy, eggs, meat, fish, etc.). Natural named flavors are always better because the source of the flavor is known. While our Whole Food Clusters are inherently extremely tasty, we want dogs to enjoy it as much as possible and make sure we can compete with kibble already being served. We have added a human-grade “natural named flavor” to Clusters. Our flavor is human-grade, not feed-grade, which is different than most other pet food brands. Rather than being topically applied with fat, our flavor is mixed into the Clusters, which develops during the slow roasting and dehydrating process. Our flavor is named and made from USDA-approved meat and is similar to our bone broths and is concentrated like a bouillon. The “natural 'named meat’ flavor” is a high protein, very concentrated, and appeals to dogs’ sense of smell and taste.
I have a question regarding the chicken ingredient in Whole Grain Chicken Clilusters for Small Breeds: is the chicken cooked or raw?
Hi Iveta, Thank you for reaching out to The Honest Kitchen. I hope you are doing well. Our Clusters are roasted until they hit the required temperature to kill any harmful pathogens and then dried in a dehydrator to remove excess moisture. Please let me know if you have any other concerns. All the best,

Frequently Asked Questions

Each pound of Whole Food Clusters equates to about 4 dry cups of food.

Find your dog's daily feeding amount using the feeding guidelines.

Divide that amount by the total dry cups in your chosen box (see below).

1 lb bag= 4 dry cups
4 lb bag= 16 dry cups
5 lb bag= 20 dry cups
10 lb bag = 40 dry cups
20 lb bag = 80 dry cups

Example:

A 30 lb dog with an average activity level is recommended 1.5 dry cups per day.

If you purchase a 10 lb bag (40 dry cups), it will last 27 days.

All of our Clusters recipes are 100% human grade and made using our MadeHonest™ process—which cold-presses, roasts, and gently dehydrates each batch to lock in nutrition and flavor. They’re crafted in a human food facility with high safety and quality standards and never include GMO ingredients or fillers like corn, wheat, or soy.

The key differences come down to ingredients, protein and variety:

  • Essential Clusters are made with healthy whole grains, high-quality protein, and the essential vitamins and minerals dogs need to thrive. They’re ideal for adult and senior dogs and include dual-protein options.
  • Whole Food Clusters build on that foundation with added superfoods like broccoli, kale, and carrots for extra health benefits. They also feature mostly single-protein recipes and are boosted with probiotics to support digestion. This line also includes options tailored to puppies and small breed dogs.
  • Protein Plus+ Clusters are dual-protein recipes that are highest in protein content. They also include added probiotics and are crafted to support many health benefits for puppies and adult dogs.

Both our Dehydrated and Clusters diets are complete and balanced and 100% human grade, so you aren't sacrificing quality when you choose between the two. Where they differ is in how they are made and how they are served.

Whole Food Clusters is our answer to "kibble." They're made by us in our own human grade facility using a proprietary MadeHonest™ process. We cold press, roast and gently dehydrate each golden delicious cluster to maintain the nutrients, aroma, and taste of our whole food ingredients.

And, unlike our dehydrated foods, there's no need to add water before serving, just simply scoop and serve!

Being human grade means that every ingredient in The Honest Kitchen's pet food meets the same safety and quality standards required for human food.

Our suppliers must adhere to strict guidelines, including human-edible status from harvest through production, adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, non-GMO ingredient usage, and freedom from chemicals or adulterants.

Each supplier provides a signed 'Human Food Grade Guarantee' and undergoes audits to ensure compliance.

Additionally, it means that all of our foods are manufactured in a facility that meets all the safety standards of human food facilities.
