Foster Dog Allergies Improved Greatly

"Took in a beautiful foster mastiff mix dog. Allergies so bad, he came within a day of being euthanized by the county kennel. Both his sides were a scratched up, hair bitten off mess. Within two weeks of this high quality human grade food, he normalized and now I can see baby hairs. Love the quality of this food. I did pair this food with the dehydrated limited ingredient fish food as well."

My dog loves it!

"My dog is a super picky eater. We've tried many different kinds of food in the past and she always just picks at it and sometimes doesn't eat at all. However, she absolutely loves this food and instantly scarfs it down!"

Brad D. (5/5)

The Good Kibble

"We feed switch on and off between this kibble and a raw meal each meal. Makes it a little easier on the pocket book and for other family members to help with feeding times or if we have a dog sitter. My dogs love their kibble feedings and I feel good about feeding this, knowing they are still getting high quality food, even though it's kibble."

Kathryn R. (5/5)

I’ve been feeding my girl

"I’ve been feeding my girl the dehydrated, which she likes. But I bought a small bag of the clusters and she likes them more. So when the dehydrated is gone, she’s getting the clusters."

Like All Honest Kitchen Offerings - They Love It!

"I have yet to find anything at Honest Kitchen that my boys won’t eat. One is allergic to chicken so I have to be careful, but outside of that, they love it all. The grain free beef is no exception. I split their 3. 5 cups a day into two servings and it’s always gone about 4-5 minutes after I set it down. I like to rotate through flavors they can have and various styles (grain free, whole made, clusters, dehydrated) and they love it all!"

Q&A

I have an 8-month old Saint Bernard puppy. Is the Grain Free Beef Whole Food Clusters support growth of large breed puppies?
Hi Virginia, Thank you for asking about our recommendations for your large breed puppy! Large and giant breed puppies have special nutritional needs that differ from both adult dogs and smaller puppies. Large breed puppies need carefully balanced calcium and phosphorus (ideally between 1:1 and 2:1 ratio) to support healthy bone development. Too much calcium or too many calories during rapid growth periods can increase their risk of developing bone and joint problems later in life. For the crucial first 4-6 months of rapid growth, we specifically recommend these recipes: **Dehydrated Foods:** - Limited Ingredient Chicken - Grain Free Beef - Grain Free Turkey - Wholemade™ Whole Grain Turkey & White Fish Dog Food (Gourmet Grains Turkey & Fish) - Wholemade™ Whole Grain Chicken & Duck Dog Food (Gourmet Grains Chicken & Duck) - Wholemade™ Whole Grain Beef & Salmon Dog Food (Gourmet Grains Beef & Salmon) **Whole Food Clusters:** - Grain Free Chicken - Grain Free Turkey - Grain Free Beef - Grain Free Chicken recipe for puppies - Whole Grain Chicken for puppies These specific recipes offer an ideal calcium to phosphorus ratio for growing large breed puppies. After approximately 6 months, you may transition to any of our puppy-appropriate recipes, including our wet food options (all Butcher Block Pâtés and One Pot Stews). For help determining the right portion size for your growing pup, please visit our feeding guide: https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/blogs/pet-wellness/puppy-feeding-chart Please let me know if you have any questions about these recommendations or if you need help selecting the best option for your specific large breed puppy! I hope this helps!
What are the feeding instructions for a 73 pound dog? I do not see that information provided anywhere.
Hi Cindy, Thank you for reaching out to The Honest Kitchen. Here is the feeding instructions for our recipes: https://support.thehonestkitchen.com/hc/en-us/articles/360026989632-How-much-do-I-feed-my-pet Please let me know if you have any other concerns. Best,
What are the calcium and phosphorus amounts for the clusters? I'm wondering if, since they are labeled as being for all life stages, the amounts will be too high and can over time stress the kidneys. For reference I have a 4 year old female GSP.
Hi Deepak, Please refer to this article for recommendations https://support.thehonestkitchen.com/hc/en-us/articles/360052399512-Puppy-Recommendations Hope this helps!
What is the ingredient Natural Beef Flavor actually consist of?
Hi Cherrie, Thank you for reaching out to The Honest Kitchen. Our natural flavors are made just from that protein itself. So if it says "natural beef flavor," then it's only made from beef. It's made in a proprietary way, but it's essentially a concentrated form of that ingredient, like a beef stock concentrate or bouillon cube. Everything remains human grade, and nothing artificial is added. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you need further assistance. All the best,
What is the advantage of whole grain vs grain free dog food s?
Hi Heidi, Thanks for reaching out! We often recommend a combination of both whole grain and grain free options for your dog, but one or the other should be perfectly fine as well. As long as your dog doesn't have a sensitivity to grains, then there's nothing wrong with providing some healthy, high quality grains in their bowl. None of the ingredients we use are fillers, so everything that's added to any of our recipes will serve a purpose. Barley, flax, and oats offer many nutritive benefits, including fiber, omega fatty acids, vitamins (B1, B3), and minerals (chromium, copper, magnesium, selenium, etc.). Barley’s insoluble fiber serves as a prebiotic, which provides a growth medium for beneficial bacteria (probiotics). Flax is rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid having anti-inflammatory benefits, and lignans, which are an antioxidant. Oats contain antioxidant compounds like avenanthramides, which reduce the risk of heart and blood vessel disease by preventing free radicals from damaging beneficial low-density lipoproteins (LDL cholesterol). On the other hand, some dogs have sensitivities to particular ingredients, and grains are no exception to this rule. This is why we offer a variety of recipes, some with grain, others without. Unfortunately, animals can develop food sensitivities by eating the same food over extended periods of time. Just like us, each time a dog is exposed to something they're allergic to, the response can increase. So what may start out as a mild or even unnoticeable sensitivity can develop into something worse over time. For that reason, we recommend changing things up every once in a while (rotational diet). A rotational diet can also help to provide a larger variety of nutrients from different sources, which can help to promote overall health. Variety is the spice of life! I like to rotate back and forth between grain free and whole grain recipes, and my dogs seem to love it. So both are a good choice, depending on your dog's dietary requirements. I hope this helps and please let us know if we can be of further assistance. We are always happy to help! Thanks,

Frequently Asked Questions

Each pound of Whole Food Clusters equates to about 4 dry cups of food.

Find your dog's daily feeding amount using the feeding guidelines.

Divide that amount by the total dry cups in your chosen box (see below).

1 lb bag= 4 dry cups
4 lb bag= 16 dry cups
5 lb bag= 20 dry cups
10 lb bag = 40 dry cups
20 lb bag = 80 dry cups

Example:

A 30 lb dog with an average activity level is recommended 1.5 dry cups per day.

If you purchase a 10 lb bag (40 dry cups), it will last 27 days.

All of our Clusters recipes are 100% human grade and made using our MadeHonest™ process—which cold-presses, roasts, and gently dehydrates each batch to lock in nutrition and flavor. They’re crafted in a human food facility with high safety and quality standards and never include GMO ingredients or fillers like corn, wheat, or soy.

The key differences come down to ingredients, protein and variety:

  • Essential Clusters are made with healthy whole grains, high-quality protein, and the essential vitamins and minerals dogs need to thrive. They’re ideal for adult and senior dogs and include dual-protein options.
  • Whole Food Clusters build on that foundation with added superfoods like broccoli, kale, and carrots for extra health benefits. They also feature mostly single-protein recipes and are boosted with probiotics to support digestion. This line also includes options tailored to puppies and small breed dogs.
  • Protein Plus+ Clusters are dual-protein recipes that are highest in protein content. They also include added probiotics and are crafted to support many health benefits for puppies and adult dogs.

Both our Dehydrated and Clusters diets are complete and balanced and 100% human grade, so you aren't sacrificing quality when you choose between the two. Where they differ is in how they are made and how they are served.

Whole Food Clusters is our answer to "kibble." They're made by us in our own human grade facility using a proprietary MadeHonest™ process. We cold press, roast and gently dehydrate each golden delicious cluster to maintain the nutrients, aroma, and taste of our whole food ingredients.

And, unlike our dehydrated foods, there's no need to add water before serving, just simply scoop and serve!

Being human grade means that every ingredient in The Honest Kitchen's pet food meets the same safety and quality standards required for human food.

Our suppliers must adhere to strict guidelines, including human-edible status from harvest through production, adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices, non-GMO ingredient usage, and freedom from chemicals or adulterants.
