My dog used to eat

"My dog used to eat fresh Pet, which, after a while he didn’t really care for. I switched to the whole grain, beef and oat formula. My golden retriever loves it. I noticed he has much more energy, he’s a lot healthier and happier. I do put my own toppers such as celery or berries. This is a cheaper alternative to the grain free but I think I’m going to splurge and try the grain free. I also feed my mom’s Yorkie this food and he goes crazy over it. He literally drools as I’m serving him this food. This is not only affordable, but great quality and alternative to all the other dog foods out there. I signed up for AutoShip, which is so convenient because if I need to adjust my shipment to a few days or even a week sooner, I can. My dogs love this food so much that I had to move up my AutoShip date a week because I was running out of food."

My two Flat Coats love

"My two Flat Coats love Honest Kitchen. I know they are getting great quality and nutritional value. The breeder recommended this brand and I’ve stayed with it ever since. My girls are strong & lean, no excess fat. Their coats are shiny and people always ask what kind of food do I feed them. We alternate between turkey, chicken and beef. My vet suggests they eat whole grains. So Honest Kitchen is my dogs “go to” food."

Jake loves Honest Kitchen

"Have a 19 month old male German Shepherd. I have had both of my other shepherds on Honest Kitchen products. They lived a healthy life. Jake is a long haired shepherd and has skin and allergy issues. I decided on the Wholemade Whole Grain Beef & Oat. He is doing great on this recipe. His coat is beautiful. Would highly recommend this product."

Our Dog LOVES His New Food!

"Our Irish Terrier was on a dry kibble for sensitive stomachs for all 4+ years and he started getting sick from it. As soon as we transitioned to the dehydrated Whole Grain Beef & Oat, the vomiting stopped and so did the praying position indicating pain disappeared. He eagerly eats his Honest Kitchen food with no distress after!"

Appearance seems to matter somewhat to the dogs

"The product is of good quality and reasonably priced. My dogs love it. It does lack asethetic appeal - even the dogs prefer a brand that looks as well as tastes like beef. The look is where this product looses points. When I put it next to a different brand that looks like chopped meat, the pets go for the other brand. (But the other brand costs alot more. )"

Ease of Use, Quality and Enthusiasm

"This is the second variety of Wholemade by THK I have used, and as with the first flavor, it is excellent for my dog. She has no digestive or elimination issues tolerating it that I can detect. The convenience of a dehydrated food is a bonus for me. I can mix enough to use it over the course of three days, and simply weigh out the hydrated amount based on her usual calorie intake. I appreciate the transparency regarding content and sources as well. My mixed breed pup goes for it as soon as I release her to eat it, and I serve it on a lick mat so she can't gulp it down in 10 seconds! Works very well for my household, and I am pleased with the product. Will continue to use it as long as she continues to eat it."

My dog was a HUGE fan!

"I love everything about this food, the ingredients are healthy, my dog enjoys the texture, and it works great for enrichment toys like the kong or pupsicle!"

Bri C. (5/5)

Great food

"I have 5 dogs ranging from 2 to 11 yrs old. All between 60 to 85 lbs. We travel a lot with the dogs for sports events for 3 of the dogs. It's important to keep my dogs in good and healthy shape and that is why I had switched to the dehydrated food and the convenience of making as we go is great!"

Denise C. (5/5)

Dogs Love Their Food!

"As soon as I open the box to make their meal, they go bonkers. They can’t sit still. Dry dog food cannot compete. Never going back. They love all the flavors. Just wish it was a little cheaper."

Great REAL food

"My English bulldog loves his food and it keeps his weight in check"

Q&A

I feed my dog 3/4 cup of dry food and I am currently giving him the honest kitchen beef stew and one tried these packets and liked them as well. I was trying to figure out how much to give him of the packet. He is 42 lbs
Hi Stephanie, Thank you for reaching out to The Honest Kitchen. The 1.5oz packets hold close to 1/3 cup. Just under 1/2 cup. Please let me know if you have any other concerns. All the best,
Hi there, I was wondering why sodium selenite was allowed to be listed in the food ingredients but us customers are not informed about the toxicity it has when ingested or breathed in by our pets? Why can't a non-synthetic mineral be in its place instead? Thank you, E.
Thanks so much for your note. We’ve chosen sodium selenite because both the sodium and selenium levels needed to be increased in our diets to meet AAFCO requirements. This compound provides the necessary elevation in both. Any mineral can actually be toxic if fed in excessive amounts. It’s important to note that we’re just using an exceedingly small trace amount of selenium in order to have our diets meet AAFCO’s requirements. The alternative you mention, selenium yeast, would not address the sodium requirement and is also a potential concern for some dogs who may have sensitivities to yeast products. Many pet owners prefer to avoid yeast products in their pets’ food. Additionally, selenium yeast is also not approved yet by AAFCO for use in cat foods. Even those companies who use selenium yeast (selenomethionine) in their dog foods still have to use sodium selenite as the selenium source for their cat food products. Selenium (as well as almost any mineral) can be a toxicity concern if over-dosed. The risk of overdose is not any different between sodium selenite and selenium yeast. As with every single component in our vitamin-mineral premix, our sodium selenite is 100% human food grade and not sourced from China. We purchase our premix from a supplier to human food and supplement companies, and it’s formulated with extreme precision, according to human food standards. Our manufacturing facility is also a human food producer and has incredibly strict quality control measures in place, producing our food in small, precise, and carefully measured batches. Our foods are formulated with a selenium level well below the maximum allowable safe amount. We have a track record of safely producing our foods for more than seventeen years. With all that being said, we do appreciate your feedback and will absolutely keep it on file. We want to assure you that we are incredibly thoughtful about every decision we make regarding the safety and integrity of our products. We’re as obsessed with pets as our customers, and we only ever make products that are good enough for our own pets to eat. We also taste everything ourselves. The information and safety data about selenium is confusing; there’s some misinformation online, but there are also a number of studies that talk about the safety and health-enhancing effects of sodium selenite in both animals and human beings, which have been linked below. We will continue to keep abreast of scientific research and clinical trials on the subject, and of course, as with every aspect of our products, we will pivot if we feel it’s necessary to, in the future. http://www.longecity.org/forum/topic/67301-alternative-cancer-treatment-when-chemotherapy-fails-sodium-selenite-may-cure/ http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.2903/j.efsa.2016.4398/pdf http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4488827/ http://www.fsc.go.jp/english/evaluationreports/foodadditive/sodium_selenite_executive_summar_17_November_2015.pdf We hope that sets your mind at rest!
I see you listed how much to feed the pups but it is unreadable seems like a copy paste of a table format that did not work. Can you please just tell me how much to feed a 80lb dog? I dont know why that data table that was copied and pasted from is not easily found right there on the product page Thanks

Was this beef with grain food once called Verve?
Hi Diane, Yes that is correct! hope this helps!
Hi. I’m looking for a feeding guide. My dog cannot have chicken, and we would like to include grains. She currently eats a lamb and rice recipe and she is losing weight (3 year old Great Pyrenees). I’m trying to find out how much food per day she should get if she is 90lbs?
