Finished gobbling down that turkey? Turn the rest into dog treats!
So much turkey…so sick of eating it! If you’re in the same boat as I am, you’ve got a freezer full of turkey that’s leftover from the holidays, and you don’t want to throw it out. Now here’s a great idea—use it for a healthy and tasty homemade dog treat! You can freeze them and have a supply for months at your disposal! I threw in some extra cranberries and pumpkin I had on hand from Christmas baking, as well as The Honest Kitchen’s Grain Free Veggie, Nut, and Seed Base Mix for the added goodness of carrots, flaxseed, parsnips, peas, celery, and coconut.Ingredients
-
2 cups buckwheat flour
-
1 ½ cups cooked turkey shredded into small pieces (skin removed)
-
¼ cup dried cranberries
-
1 egg
-
¼ cup pureed pumpkin
-
1 ¼ cup The Honest Kitchen’s Whole Grain Veggie & Fruit Base Mix
-
¼ cup broth (chicken, beef or vegetable)
Directions
Preheat oven to 350°F. Line cookie sheets with parchment paper.
Cut or shred the turkey into small pieces. Put turkey, pumpkin puree, and broth into a food processor or blender and blend into a paste.
- Add all ingredients to a large bowl and mix into a stiff dough. Add more broth if needed.
- Roll out dough onto floured surface and roll out to ½-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and place on baking sheets.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes. If you want a crunchier cookie, turn the oven off and let the cookies sit for an additional 30 minutes.
- Cool on a wire rack for 3-4 hours. Store in the refrigerator in a sealed tight container.
Recipe Note
If you don't want to add the garlic, feel free to leave it out. It won't affect the outcome of the recipe.
