Success Story: How a Pit Bull Overcame Terrible Skin Issues
Lucy Postins
We were so happy to receive this incredible report on the effects of our new Limited Ingredient fish diet, Brave, in a rescue Pit Bull in Texas, who’d been in a really sorry state.
Greg, with RAW by Canines First, sent us the following:
“I finally received high res images of our one month skin rash trial on Blue, the Pit Bull found by Paws In The City (PITC). We were extremely pleased with how well he did on the food and were amazed with the results we saw in the dog. I especially like the photo comparison that shows the frontal view and how much inflammation he had in his face. It doesn’t even look like the same dog. The photos really show how much internal inflammation he had and how much it distorted his overall appearance. In person, I didn’t even recognize him when he came into the store the last time. His coat was one of the softest I have ever felt.Blue was picked up in downtown Dallas and brought to PITC for rescue and re-homing. He was malnourished and showing some signs of skin issues. PITC was feeding their rescues California Naturals Grain Free but were not seeing improvements in his skin so a switch was made to Wellness Core Grain Free. Still no improvement. PITC consulted with RAW by Canines First about some alternate diets to try to help Blue turn the corner with his skin issues. Blue’s symptoms were so severe we made the decision to switch him to frozen raw or THK because of the digestive ease and high level of nutrition. Before we could start the new food Blue was taken to a dermatologist for examination.
The dermatologist asked that we not change any variable other than the ones he was trying. Blue was put on several medicines and shots to help calm his irritated skin with no real improvement over three weeks. After the agreed amount of time PITC came back to RAW to try the not yet released Limited Ingredient Fish Recipe. Thankfully, Stephanie had shared a large sample box with us so we had enough to do a two week trial.
Within the two weeks the owners were able to stop further the spreading of the skin issues on his chin, neck and chest. After speaking with Stephanie, THK provided Blue with a free box of Brave to continue his treatment. As more time passed we saw inflammation reduce and the redness in his skin subsided. After 6 weeks, his issues had all but disappeared and Blue had a new attitude towards life. To conclude the trial, RAW provided Blue’s family with a box of the Grain Free Fish Recipe to see if the skin issues would return, and they did not!
PITC is a great organization that has a tremendous impact on the DFW metroplex….they do really incredible work for very sickly dogs. RAW by Canines First sponsors PITC by providing their dog food so when they had an issue with a health-related symptom they came to us for ideas. After listening to the story and assessing what his adopted family would be willing to do for him long term we chose THK Brave to try to help this wonderful dog. PITC, RAW and Blue’s family are so appreciative that THK helped find a solution to a very troubling skin issue. We all thank you for such a great product!!
